Skin care content creators have progressed from their real skin  being masked by social media filters, to providing honest reviews on skin concerns and how they affect anyone.

 

Here are the skin concerns that are leading these conversations

1: Acne

the hashtag acne has close to 80billion views on TikTok with the same hashtag having 12million tagged Instagram posts. While acne is know to cause self consciousness new online campaigns such as “free the pimple’ have encouraged individuals with acne to freely embrace their skin differences in 2024.

2. Eczema 

1 in 5 children and 1 in 10 adults are reported to be affected by eczema according to the UK’s national eczema society. While eczema can be a debilitating condition many people have found solice in social media through finding content creators who share their journey and tips which include close to 3 billion TikTok views.

 

3. Psoriasis 

Celebrities like Kim Kardashian have brought to light what psoriasis is on major television platforms. The skin condition commonly known to cause flaky silvery patches affects 2% of the global population. 

4. hyperpigmentation 

Skin care enthusiasts have spread positive and supportive advice on how to overcome hyperpigmentation from their tried and tested product reviews. The hyperpigmentation hashtag now has over 3 billion views on TikTok and more than a million Instagram views. 

5. Aging 

It seems we all want to remain forever young. A popular aging filter went viral on tiktok, resulting in users purchasing sunscreen and retinol in order to reverse the signs of aging. The hashtag again received over 1 billion views on TikTok.

Overall, the conversation about skin concerns has evolved from making people feel subconscious about their skin to discussions that have reshaped societal views on aging, acne and other common skin conditions, promoting greater inclusivity and understanding.
